In order to work with AFMC and be considered by an expectant mother, you must provide the following documents to Adoption For My Child:

    • A completed home study
    • A letter to the expectant mother
    • An adoption profile about your family

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completed & Non-expired – While filling out your questionnaire, you will be asked to provide the date that your home study officially expires. Please have that information ready.
  • Approved for Private US Domestic Adoption – If you have a Foster Care or International Adoption home study (which typically has different requirements), please check with your original home study provider to ensure your home study can be used for private adoption as well.
  • Even though it is no required, we highly encourage you to upload a copy of your home study file while filling out the new member questionnaire. Please note that if you are selected by an expectant mother, you will need to provide a copy of your home study to the adoption entity representing her within 48 hours. Not having a home study will result in a failed adoption.
    • Level of openness – Be sure to discuss the level of openness you are willing to consider in your adoption. It’s always better to be honest than to give someone false hope.
    • Gender neutral terms – Unless you are attempting to adopt a child of a specific gender, it’s best to use gender neutral terms if you reference the child to the child.
    • No contact information – This includes LAST NAMES, phone numbers, email addresses, social media links, website URLs, logos, adoption agency, attorney, or consultant information, etc.
    • Avoid the term “Birth Mother” – A friendly reminder that she is an expectant mother. A birth mother has already placed her child for adoption. If you refer to her as “birth mother, for some women, it can imply that the choice regarding adoption has already been made for her.

    • Your profile book MUST BE A PDF. (Sorry, links to your online profile, personal website, or individually uploaded photos will not be accepted.)
    • Maximum file size – The size of your PDF file cannot exceed 124 MB. If your file is too large, don’t worry, you can reduce it using this [FREE online tool].
    • 12 pages or fewer – Your PDF profile book may not exceed more than 12 pages in total (including your cover page).
    • No contact information – This includes LAST NAMES, phone numbers, email addresses, social media links, website URLs, logos, adoption agency, attorney, or consultant information, etc.
