Kate & Scott
– Illinois –
We would like to start by being completely honest: we cannot imagine the important, emotional decisions you are facing. Still, we send you our genuine wish for peace as you consider what is best for you and your baby.
We struggled for many years with infertility, and that felt like a roller coaster ride. When we decided to grow our family through adoption, it brought with it the excitement we felt when we first decided to start a family.
We promise to love and protect your child, to always be grateful for the life we share together, to provide a warm home, a great education, and an extended family ready to welcome a new baby with love.
Thank you for learning more about us. We'd love to get to know you, too.
Family: Kate grew up in Michigan with her mom, dad and older sister. He sister and brother-in-law now live near Chicago with their two sons (our 7 and 11 year old nephews), so her mom and dad visit every month.
Occupation: Kate is a special education teacher at a school in our neighborhood. It starts at nursery school and goes until 8th grade, so she is looking forward to her family attending school where she works! She has been working as a teacher for 15 years, and she takes a lot of pride in helping students and families get the most out of school.
Favorite things: days by the pool or lake, reading, concerts, good conversation over a delicious meal, our dogs
Family: Scott grew up in Indiana with his parents and older sister. His family lives in Washington, D.C. now, including our two nieces ( 6 and 4 years old). DC is one of Scott’s favorite cities and we always have fun when we get to visit. Scott’s grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins live in the Chicagoland area. New great-grandchildren in the family make for energetic and love-filled holiday gatherings.
Occupation: Scott is a chef and a food photographer. He works for a company that develops meal kits people can cook at home. He cooks the meals and takes photos for the company’s products and website. He truly enjoys cooking, which means we have delicious meals at home, too.
Favorite things: photography, cycling, exploring new places, long walks with the dogs
We live in a two-story home on the north side of Chicago. It includes a yard and play area, and is a five minute walk to the path along Lake Michigan. Our neighborhood is quiet, but within walking distance to all that we enjoy. We are excited about exploring the world with a child. Chicago has a lot of cool places for families - our neighborhood, but also the zoo, libraries, museums, and parks. We love living here, and imagine it will feel even more special with a child. Pictures to come soon!
While we have been waiting to become parents, we have slowly been creating a room for a baby that is calming and full of items we treasure. We had watercolor portraits of the dogs done, and also have artwork that was handed down to us by our parents from when the two of us were babies. The space has a stars, rainbows, and exploration theme - we want to encourage our family to dream big right from the start. Pictures to come soon!
Stanley is ten years old. We got him when he was a puppy, and he changed our lives for the better. He has a protective, snuggly personality; he really just wants to be with his people and his canine sister at all times. Stanley’s favorites: playing fetch with a tennis ball, being carried, taking long afternoon naps, peanut butter. Kona is three years old and has brought a new energy to our family. She keeps us all on our toes. She will throw toys around and catch them, but also loves to play keep away. Kona’s favorites: running around the dog park, laying RIGHT next to Stanley on the couch, having her ears scratched.
In addition to our immediate families, we have many generations of our families very close to us. Scott’s grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins all live in Chicago; there are currently four great-grandchildren, and everyone is excited about another child joining the crew. We also spend a lot of time with Kate’s family since her sister lives in a suburb of Chicago. Our nephews can’t wait to go swimming and watch movies with their cousin.
We are big on traditions. We go to Hawaii with Kate's entire family every two years, which is probably our coolest tradition. We also attend sporting events as a family every year. But we also value celebrate holidays and milestones with families. We celebrate with both sides of our family for as many special occasions as we can. We think it is important to have traditions to stay connected as a family, and we can't wait to share ours with a child.
