Odessa & Mikel

– Washington –

Introduction

We are Odessa and Mikel (pronounced Michael), and we live in a quiet suburb outside of Seattle, Washington. We are hoping to start our family through adoption, as Odessa has known since she was a teenager that she could not carry children, but always dreamed of being a mother.

Our home is full of love and fun, and our families are very ready to add a tiny new bundle of joy. Both of our mothers live very close by, and spend a lot of time with us. They're looking forward to being grandmothers for the first time, and helping to watch the baby when we work.

We hope to have an open adoption so that our child can grow up knowing their own story, and their whole family. Thank you for considering us to be part of that family.

About Odessa

I grew up with my sister and brother and our parents in the suburbs outside Seattle, but moved to Ohio, Indiana, and Texas through college and into my adult life, only returning to the Seattle area in 2014.

My mother and father divorced when I was very small, and my father remarried a wonderful lady who became my third parent. All three of them are very excited to be first-time grandparents, and looking forward to baby-sitting as much as we will let them!

In my spare time, I love to spend time gardening, hiking, and baking. I'm an okay cook, but I'm a really good baker, and people love my cookies and pies. I'm trying to love running as a hobby, but it's mostly just healthy, and not super fun. I am also learning to play guitar (badly!)

About Mikel

I am originally from Montana, and have spent most of my life there. I moved to Washington in 2014, but I lived all over the US while I was in the Army.

I have one sister from my dad's first marriage, but she is much older so I was basically raised as an only child. My father passed away in 2017, and I brought my mother here to be closer to us. Mom has always wanted to be a grandma and she is already dreaming about what the future might be like.

I am a geek by nature; I enjoy nerdy hobbies like video games, comic books, and Lego, but I also enjoy being outdoors camping and fishing. My favorite holiday is Halloween, and I'm always thinking up elaborate decorations for the yard, but then running out of time!

Our Home

We live in a family oriented neighborhood, walking distance from the city pool, the library, and the brand new elementary school. We love that it's a quiet area, but is still close enough to the city to be able to experience great events and museums that aren't available in a smaller town.

Our house is a one story and has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It also has a massive back yard, since the house is older before everyone started building close together. We love to spend time there gardening, or just enjoying the shade of the willow tree. We were married there under a giant maple tree.

Our Nursery

Our future nursery has a big window with a view of the backyard, and is currently Odessa's sewing room. We are guarding our hearts by not turning it into a nursery until we have been matched with an expectant mother, but we are excited to take that step when it's time. It would just be heartbreaking to set up a nursery and then have it be a lonely place while we wait.

Our Pets

We have two little dogs, Mara and Riker, who we each rescued from shelters as puppies in 2015.

Mikel's dog Mara is a Boston Terrier, and though she is small (just 12 pounds!) she is feisty. She likes to wear sweaters and snuggle under blankets even in the summer, and will hug you and press her neck on your face for kisses. When she is excited, she will run super fast and get 'the zoomies' racing around the house and yard.

Odessa's dog Riker is a terrier mix of some kind, and he has endless energy! He is very loving and adores being cuddled and having his ears played with. He loves to fetch sticks, and bite water from the hose or sprinkler. When he's tired, all he wants is to nap with one of his people on the couch.

Our Family

Our families are arrayed around us near and far supporting our dreams to adopt. Everyone is excited to have a new baby in the immediate family for the first time in many years. All five of the baby's future grandparents (Mikel's mom, Odessa's mom, dad, and stepmom) are all within a short drive from us, and visit often (probably even more once we have a baby!). Our siblings live a bit further, but are excited to be aunts and uncles as well.

Holidays are held at our house every year, and it's always wonderful to have everyone in one place at once.
