Karin & Michael

– New York –

Introduction

We are a loving couple, 12 years married. We live in beautiful New York City 100 steps from Central Park. We are passionate about family, friends and travel.

The question for us was never IF but WHEN we would adopt. Both of us have volunteered with children throughout our lives, and knew

that we wanted to be adoptive parents.

Karin has worked as a teacher and as a volunteer in an orphanage with babies and toddlers. Michael volunteered as a camp counselor for kids with challenging homelives. Both of us were very active in the children’s ministry groups at church.

We believe that love makes a family, not genetics. We have friends who are like family to us, whose children we cherish, with whom we spend vacations and holidays. We know that family is the people you choose to surround yourself with to share in life’s joys and hardships.

About Karin

Karin brings out the best in people. She is incredibly thoughtful, compassionate and dedicated. Karin never forgets a birthday or an anniversary. She does not miss any opportunity to text or call a friend to check in. Karin always makes people feel like the most special person on the planet. Karin has lived in 4 countries and has been a teacher, a professor, and a communications professional.

Michael describes Karin: It would be easy to describe Karin as intelligent, beautiful and honest, but that alone wouldn’t do her justice.

She is incredibly thoughtful, compassionate and dedicated.

Karin has brought out the best in me. She has brought a light to my family; she is more popular with them than I am! I can remember how animated my 90-year-old grandfather – generally a stoic man – would get speaking with her.

Karin will be the world’s best mother, just by being who she is. She will show interest in the kids’ activities, challenge them to learn more, and help them when they need it. All the while always making them feel like the most special person on the planet.

About Michael

Michael is very intelligent and interested in a wide variety of topics – from soccer and baseball over music to literature and superheroes. Michael is extremely good with kids. He is the favorite “fun uncle” of our god-children and the children of our friends. He plays baseball and soccer with them, supports them when they climb around on jungle gyms, takes their hands as they cross the street, blows their noses, cuts their food into bite-sized pieces, and changes diapers. It comes as second nature to him, directly from a place of fatherly love.

Karin describes Michael: Everyone loves Michael. He is such a charmer and he enjoys meeting people from different backgrounds and making new friends. Michael is intelligent and interested in a wide variety of topics, from soccer to baseball to music to literature and superheroes.

Though it is cliché, I have to say that Michael is the best thing that ever happened to me.

Building Our Family Through Adoption

Our Letter To You

From Us To You…

We have always dreamed of being parents.

We cannot understand the position you are in, but in the end, by considering adoption, something good, something beautiful can result.

We would love to walk with you through this pregnancy and create a forever home for your child. It will be a home full of love and full of discovery. Michael cannot help but make an exciting game out of even the most basic activities. Brushing teeth, learning math, walking on the sidewalk — they all become distant planets, or underground cave explorations. Karin will be our child’s champion. There is no better person to have protecting and fighting for our child. Karin has an amazing ability to organize the different needs of those around her. She will also be a place they come for comfort, as she is for everyone she knows.

We want to provide our chile with a life full of discovery: of new places, new cultures, different countries near and far. Whether exploring the Grand Canyon, or in a Jeep on safari in South Africa, climbing pyramids in Egypt or exploring the cathedrals of Europe, discovery will be a part of our child’s life.

Back home, we will make sure our child is part of great schools with great teachers who will prepare him or her for their future, whatever they eventually dream to be. We will work at home to prepare him or her for living their lives as good members of society. We will introduce them to ethics and belief systems, and encourage them to investigate how to become the best person they can be.

Above all, we promise that your child will always know that they are loved unconditionally, that they have a family and a home, and that they have people surrounding them on whom they can rely today and throughout their future. We will always be open with your child about his or her history and where they came from. We will try and explore those pieces of them that are unique, and, should you desire, we would welcome an open adoption, where you might always have a place in your child’s life. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for reading this and for considering us for this amazing journey. We are grateful and humbled beyond words.

Our Parenting Style

Love guides our parenting choices. In every instance it is important that our child understands that love guides. We do not believe in any form of corporal punishment, and are completely against any sort of emotional punishment. We find that children make mistakes out of a lack of understanding more than malice. As a parent it is our job to make sure that the child has the right information about what is right and wrong, while still being able to express themselves.

Above all we parent with love. We have both had wonderful examples of parents who taught us that parenting is as much about listening to the child as correcting their behavior. Though the child is expected to listen, it is always because they have age specific reasoning behind it.

Our Story

Our Story

OUR HOME

Karin grew up in a small town in Austria, Michael in Minnesota. Today, New York City is our home.

We live on a tree-lined street near shops and restaurants. Many people in our apartment building have young children, and the community is very social.

The day cares and schools in the area are excellent. There are children’s museums, activity centers and sports facilities throughout the neighborhood – plenty of activities for kids of any age.

OUR FAMILY

We both come from very loving families. both of us each have one younger brother. Michael’s parents live in Florida and are retired and traveling. Karin’s mother lives in Austria and is also retired and spending time with her grandson, Karin’s nephew.

OUR PETS

Skaja is our two-year-old Samoyed, and she is part of the family. Samoyeds are known for being great family dogs, and Skaja loves children. During walks in the park, she is always game for a cuddle with the neighborhood kids. She can handle anything a child might do: a poke to the eye, a pull to the ear, a tickle on the belly. We know that Skaja will be the perfect companion for a child, as well as their protector, always staying by their side.
