Introduction

Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to visit our profile. We hope that it will give you a sense of the family that we are able to provide to a child – a family full of love, laughter, unconditional support, and adventure.

A little bit about us. We are a loving, down-to-earth, multi-ethnic, multi-religious, same-sex couple in Brooklyn, NY. We have been together for eight years. We met while working together in New York City government. We initially bonded over of our mutual love of biking, and got to know each other during long bike rides throughout the different neighborhoods of New York City. Despite coming from different cultural backgrounds, we soon learned that we shared many things in common, most especially the central role that family plays in our lives. The desire to someday build our own family through adoption is something that connected us early on.

About Sal

I grew up in a predominantly Latino community in the greater Los Angeles area. My three siblings and I learned many valuable lessons

from our hardworking parents including how to be resourceful and the importance of obtaining an education.

Although my parents were able to purchase a house and provide our family with stability, the reality was that the mortgage payment exceeded my parents’ combined minimum wage salaries. To make ends meet, my ever resourceful parents transformed our house by converting our original four bedrooms, two living rooms into 4 different apartments. Under one roof, there were twenty people living in our house! Essentially, they created a community within a community full of love and support.

Despite my parents only receiving an elementary school education, they understood that education was a passport for a better future. While the majority of my high school classmates did not pursue higher education, I was lucky enough to participate in Upward Bound, a program aimed to help first-generation students succeed in college. Through Upward Bound, I gained the college-level writing and reading skills, which proved useful when I attended Georgetown University. Several years later, I also earned a master’s degree from Harvard.

Every day, I am grateful for all the blessings in my life – good health, an amazing husband, loyal friends and a job that allows me to help others. Ever the optimist, I am hopeful that one day Seth and I will be fortunate enough to realize our dream of becoming fathers.

About Seth

I grew up in a small town on Long Island, NY. Really small – my graduating high school class had less than eighty students! It was a nice way to grow up. Although my family was just me, my older brother and parents, we were close and tight-knit. Growing up, my family always enjoyed lots of activities together. During the summer, we would enjoy sailing trips on our sailboat, the “Baby Jenny.” In the wintertime, we spent many weekends skiing in Vermont. It was through these times spent together that I learned to value the importance of family, and I always knew that I wanted a family of my own someday.

After going to college in upstate New York, I moved to New York City for law school and haven’t looked back. I love living in a place that has so many opportunities, fun activities, and interesting people. Currently, I work as a lawyer for a financial services company, where I enjoy my work and have great colleagues.

Whereas Sal is outgoing and spontaneous, I tend to be more reserved and cautious. I like to think that we balance each other out! But I also have a surprisingly silly side. This is especially so whenever a karaoke machine is nearby! I am also loyal and have a big heart. I would do anything for my friends and family, and I know that they would do the same for me.

Our Parenting Style

Our relationship is centered on spending time together and sharing new experiences. We have had many fun adventures together, both big and small, whether it be weekend camping trips in Vermont or a 545-mile bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Through it all, we’ve learned that we can accomplish anything so long as we work together as a team. But we are now ready for our greatest adventure yet– to start a family and be dads to an amazing child!
