We first want to let you know that we are full of gratitude and admiration toward you. As parents who already cherish our energetic, loving 6-year-old and dream of growing our family through adoption, we want you to know we understand that this is one of the most selfless and painful choices a mother could ever face. It must take an incredible amount of courage and love. We are profoundly grateful that you are taking the time to consider us as the family who could welcome and raise this baby with the same devotion we give our daughter every single day. The character you are demonstrating through this act of pure selflessness; it is a gift of the highest order, one that reflects a depth of love most people never know. No matter where your journey leads, please know we are here to support you with open arms, endless respect, and unwavering gratitude for the beautiful possibility you are bravely offering.
Being a parent is a very unique role in that it is about balancing many different things. Managing time
Disciplining but also comforting
We do our best to keep our home open and welcoming to family and friends. There is plenty of open space for entertaining and playing games. An ideal afternoon or evening will consist of yard games, grilling or cooking dinner, then board games together until bed time for our kindergartner. The eat-in kitchen is the hub of activity year round, but we spend as much time on our back deck and yard as possible. We have a lighted putting green in the back and also a level area where we play yard games like cornhole, wiffle ball, or soccer. The upstairs has 4 bedrooms and three bathrooms. Two of which are currently only occupied when we have family staying with us. We have one of these rooms set up in the hope that it will be used by another little one soon!
Our nursery is set up and eagerly awaiting the arrival of a new little one. With our daughter, we have spent a lot of time reading and we have dozens of books. The room is directly across the hall from our master bedroom and it served us well when she was younger. It is full of natural light, baby toys and “stuffies”. The nursery is a place of peace, comfort and cozy safety.
We have one dog, Xena who is a very loving and sometimes energetic two year old mixed breed. She loves to chase her ball and follow her human “sister” around. Her favorite activity, however, is definitely lounging in the sun in the back yard.
We consider ourselves to be an active family. Even though there are currently three of us, we stay occupied with all sorts of sports and hobbies. Leanne enjoys cooking, baking, weight lifting, gardening, and singing in the choir. Mike likes to golf, play tennis, work on house or yard projects, and compete in obstacle course races. Our daughter, Annie is a gymnast and singer, but this year she is expanding her interests into soccer, tennis and some acting. We do our best to stay busy, but we know that we have both time and the means to enrich our lives with another little one. We know what a blessing and honor it would be and we are grateful for the chance to share a little glimpse of our family with you.
In addition to our life at home, our family enjoys traveling especially with our extended family. We are fortunate to be close with our siblings and our parents. Even better is that our parents get along with each other well!
We have developed a family tradition of having a summer lake trip in which at least one of our siblings and both of our parents can enjoy together. We spend a week at a mountain lake tubing, swimming, and just being outside together as a big group.
Lake life has become a great part of our family’s life. We tend to get out on the water most weekends between April and November. It is an absolute blast to host friends on our boat or to meet up with other friends on their boats or to simply have a quiet (ish) time with just our immediate family.
