I currently live in North Dakota, but have strong Texas roots, as that is where I was born and raised. I am half Hispanic and speak some Spanish. I have a great work-life balance and love to travel and spend time outdoors. My top hobbies are woodworking, gardening, hiking, and baking. I have two cats and a large Swiss Mountain Dog named Gibson. I have three sisters and two brothers (one of whom was adopted), one niece, one nephew, and was raised by my mom.

Building Our Family Through Adoption

Our Letter To You

Hello!

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile! We are Katelyn  (Kate) and Gary, and we are hoping to build a family through an open adoption. We are both half hispanic (Mexican) and would honor and celebrate the culture of any child we adopt, by learning about their heritage and celebrating it. Kate’s oldest brother joined her family through adoption when he was 9 years old, so adoption was always something on her heart. Additionally, Gary was adopted by his parents (his biological uncle and aunt) when he was a child.

We are both from Texas but live New Mexico. We have family in San Antonio, Austin, Abilene, and Lubbock, and friends all over the country. We love to travel and visit our friends and family often.

Kate was raised by a single mother who placed love, empathy, and education at the forefront of how she raised her and her siblings. She was the kind of mom who played outside and ensured we had childhood filled with love and fun. That’s how we want to raise our kids too. We want the child we adopt to have every opportunity possible and for them to grow up knowing how loved they are and stay connected to you.

We love spending time outdoors, whether exploring nature through camping and hiking, spending time working in the yard, or walking to our neighborhood’s parks and trails. During the week we spend time in the backyard gardening (Kate has a vegetable and flower garden) or relaxing by the fire pit Gary built. On the weekend we go on little hikes within short driving distances, work on projects around the house, or visit new places. We love cooking together as a family and trying new recipes. We hope to raise children who appreciate nature and love learning about new things as much as we do.
I

We’ve heard the expression that when you adopt your family tree becomes an orchard and we love that idea. As foster parents we e seen how important open adoptions are so children can stay connected to their culture and history. It is very important to us that any child we adopt have the chance to have an open connection with their first family. We want you to guide the level of openness of the adoption you are comfortable with, but hope an open adoption would include open communication via e-mail, texts, calls, and in-person visits when possible. We hope that one day we will all be comfortable enough to take family vacations together and spend some holidays together.

We can’t imagine the stress you are feeling in navigating this difficult decision. It takes a strong and brave woman to consider trusting someone else with raising her child. Thank you for considering us for such an important role.

Sincerely,

Kate and Gary
